Mulan

The Mundane World

Mulan is a young woman who lives with her family in China. She is a very independent spirit and does not like some of the customs in her village.

The Call To Adventure

When the Huns invade China, each family is given a notice that they have to send someone to the army. Mulan’s father is too old and weak to go, but has decided to go anyway.

Crossing The Threshold

Mulan decides to disguise herself as a man and go into the army in place of her father. She grabs her father’s armor and horse and heads off towards the camp.

The Path of Trials

Mulan endures many obstacles. When she takes her father’s armor and goes to the army camp, she must not be found out. Mulan has to make everyone believe she is a man. She is accompanied by Khan, her horse, Mushu, her guardian and Cri-Kee, a cricket.

She is physically challenged during training. At first she falters but eventually overcomes. She travels with the army and its captain, Li Shang, to meet with General Li. When they get to the meeting point, they find that everyone has been killed by the Huns. Even worse, they are attacked by the Huns in an almost impossible place to defend. Mulan saves everyone’s life including her captain but is injured.

The members of the army discover that she is a woman and she is expelled. While she is recovering, she discovers that the Huns were not destroyed so she rides towards the army and the emperor to warn them. Mulan saves the emperor from the remaining Huns and saves all of China in the process. She returns to her father and gives him the sword of the leader of the Huns and the crest of the emperor.

Master of Two Worlds

Mulan saved many people throughout her time in the army. She used her intelligence and skill to get past the Huns and save China. She returned home knowing how much trouble she could be in but was embraced by her father and learned that nothing is more important than loved ones and her family.
