Tony StarkThe Mundane WorldTony Stark is a fast-driving, womanizing man who is the head of Stark Industries, a company that manufactures weapons. He keeps his own schedule, doesn’t listen to his friends very much, and is very The Call To AdventureTony is attacked by terrorists while being escorted from demonstrating his latest weapon, the Jericho. When a bomb lands a mere five feet next to him, he notices the name of his company on the side of the bomb. Crossing The ThresholdWhen he comes to, he is greeted by Yinsen, a man also captured by the same terrorist group called the Ten Rings. One of the leaders of the group tells Tony that he must build another Jericho. Tony seemingly agrees but in reality decides to build something else entirely, something that will help him escape. The Path of TrialsTony goes through a couple of trials at the start of his journey. His first challenge is physical in the fact that he has to keep a piece of shrapnel from entering his heart. Yinsen builds an electromagnet hooked to a car battery to stop the shrapnel from going deeper. Tony builds a much better version that will keep his heart going and he doesn’t have to carry a battery around either. To escape the terrorists, Tony builds a powered suit that makes him stronger and bullet-proof. Using the suit, he makes his way out of the caves and flies a short distance out of camp. He is found by his friend James Rhodes and is brought back home. He decides that he will now protect the people he put in danger and builds a much better powered suit of armor. Once his suit is completed, he heads to a town in Afghanistan to help the refugees who are being taken from their homes. It comes to light that Obadiah Stane, Tony’s business partner, hired the terrorists to kill him. Obadiah reverse engineers a new suit from the first powered suit that Tony made, but needs a way to power it. He takes the current power core out of Tony’s chest and leaves him for dead. Tony manages to get the original power core into his chest, gets in the suit and stops Stane. Master of Two WorldsTony goes from being a selfish womanizer to a caring and heroic individual. After he sees his weapons being used by the terrorists, he realizes that he has put innocent people in danger and dedicates himself to destroying those weapons and protecting the world. He becomes Iron Man and continues to put himself in harm’s way to help those who need protecting and to stop those who would hurt them. Submitted by: Steve Kessel |
