James P. SullivanThe Mundane WorldSully lives in Monstropolis along with his trainer, Mike Wazowski. He works at Monster’s Inc., a company that has its employees collect screams from children to power the entire city. In order to get the scream, the monster’s go through doors that open up into a specific child’s room. Sully is the company’s top scarer. The Call To AdventureWhile coming back to the floor where all the doors are, Sully finds a door that should be back in the vault. Another peculiar thing about this door is that it is on, meaning that when a monster opens the door it will open into a child’s room. Crossing The ThresholdSully walks through the door and literally crosses the threshold. He walks into a little girl’s room, but nobody is inside. He walks out and closes the door, but hears a strange noise behind him. It turns out to be a little girl. Humans are supposedly toxic, so letting a little girl into the monster world is incredibly bad. The Path of TrialsAt first, Sully starts to panic and tries to get the little girl back into the door. Unfortunately he sees Randall, his main competition, coming out of the door with a bag and he sends the door away. Sully then tries to hide the little girl, who he names “Boo”, at his apartment. This doesn’t go over very well with Mike. Sully and Mike then try their best to get Boo back to her world. Mike tries to pass off a door as Boo’s, but Sully refuses to just let Boo go just to not have her in their world. Sully has realized that humans aren’t toxic, like everyone says they are. Sully and Mike then find out that Randall is plotting to steal Boo and other children to “suck” the scream out of them by using a terrifying machine he’s built. Sully goes to Henry Waternoose, his boss and the company’s owner, to tell him about what Randall is doing. It turns out that Waternoose is in on it too and Sully and Mike are banished and sent to a snowy landscape in the human world. Sully’s last trial is to try and save Boo and take down Waternoose and Randall. He finds a door that opens back into the monster world, saves Boo and tricks Waternoose into revealing his plan to steal children in front of everyone. Master of Two WorldsSully is transformed from his journey. His friendship with Mike is strengthened. He also no longer scares the children after he sees what it can do to Boo. Instead, he solves Monstropolis’ power problem by figuring out that laughter is ten times more powerful than scream. Submitted by: Steve Kessel |
