The Hero-Teacher Series

Mike Bause

School: North Farmington High School, Michigan

Background

Mr. Mike Bause was my first High School science teacher.  Everyday Mr. Bause would come into class with his MSU coffee cup in hand ready to teach his several sections of Geophysical Science.

Mr. Bause was always there for his students;ready to give them extra help, give advice, and just listen to them.  The greatest memories which I have from Mr. Bause and his class was his corny jokes about density (quoting back to the future) and the type of rock "schist" (saying his students including me, were full of schist).

Later I took every class Mr. Bause taught including Weather and Climate, Astronomy, and even being Mr. Bause's Teacher's Assistant for the Geophysical science class my senior year.  His first year teaching at NFHS was my freshman year, in the year book he was quoted as saying "I always wanted to work at NASA, most of the time my students are in space, so I'm half way there."

Mr. Bause has made a HUGE impact on my life.  Today a good two years since I last had him as a teacher I still communicate with him for help in my classes along with just to talk to him about different science topics.

This man bleeds green and white (along with brown and gold for NFHS) when his son was born a fellow science teacher gave the Bauses diapers that said MSU on the outside and U of M on the inside.

I still consider Mr. Bause a close friend, and mentor today.  If I need advice or have a question I still go to him.
